    What an uncensored LLM is

    All guides

An uncensored LLM is not a technical term. It is a label vendors and forums put on any model that answers prompts a mainstream chatbot would refuse. Under that label you will find three different objects: a model whose weights were abliterated, a normal model wearing a jailbreak prompt, and a model fine-tuned on chats that reward compliance. They fail in different ways. If you are choosing an API, the label is the wrong thing to buy.

Ask what was changed. If the weights were edited along a refusal direction, you have an abliterated model, and the behavior survives a new session. If only the prompt changed, you have a jailbreak, and the next template from the lab can put the refusal back. If the model was trained on a new corpus, you have a fine-tune, and you inherited whatever that corpus taught, including style and errors. Refuseless sells the first of those: hosted models with refusal behavior removed from the weights.

    Why the word stuck

Mainstream chat products refuse some requests by design. People who had a legitimate reason to discuss the refused topic, and people who did not, went looking for a model that would continue. Forums called the result uncensored, unfiltered, or no-restriction. The words spread because they are short. They are also how a doorway set of near-duplicate pages gets written. This page is the definition. The page about calling one is uncensored LLM API. We are not publishing five URLs for the same sentence.

Questions that sort a real offer from a label

    • Is the change in the weights, the prompt, or the training data?
    • What is the base checkpoint, and what is the exact model id?
    • Does the host keep the prompt after the response? Retention is separate from refusal.
    • Are you looking at one model, or at a proxy that still calls a refusing model and then argues with it?

A proxy that calls a refusing model and rewrites the refusal is a product some teams want. It is not an abliterated model. Say which one you need before you compare prices. The four-way comparison is the longer version of this distinction.
